Contraception planned for schools

In order to reduce teenage pregnancies, Family Planning Victoria plans to have condoms available in schools.  However, if this was to go ahead it would take several years of discussion with the Federal Government and schools.

A spokesman from the Department of Education said, only year 11-12 students should be able to access condoms and only if the decision was supported by the school community.  There have been mixed reactions from the following organisations; Parents Victoria, the Association of Schools Councils in Victoria, Victorian Association of State Secondary Principals, Victorian Student Representative Council and the Australian Education Union.
