Entering the online classroom

Now that nearly all high school students have a computer, the push is to ensure they engage with online learning.   All states and territories are on track to achieve a 1:1 ratio of secondary students to computers in government schools by the end of the year - and the federal government has committed to a mid-program review in early 2012. It's that review which will provide essential clarity regarding the success of the program in terms of educational outcomes. To date much of the focus has been on the challenge of just getting technology into schools, rather than on how it is being used when it is there.
