Game-based learning in schools

The international not-for-profit organisation based in the US, New Media Consortium has released the 2010 “Horizon Report” which details that within the next five years, six new technologies will have a crucial influence on education.

It is expected that in less than a year, cloud computing and collaborative environments will be adopted by schools; game-based learning and mobile devices to be embraced in two to three years and in four to five years schools will be expected to take on augmented reality and flexible computer displays.

In Victoria, gifted students studying maths at Pleasant Street Primary School in Ballarat have “developed an online textbook and workspace” and Fitzroy North Primary School has introduced game-based learning to year 5 and 6 students.
